'Once Upon a Future' w/ Design in Action & Design Informatics

Warburton Gallery, India Buildings, Victoria Street, EH1 2EX

'Once Upon a Future' is a two-part evening of stories from the future produced in partnership with Design Informatics for The Scottish Design Summit 2015. Part one (4-6pm) consists of the shape of things to come from the imaginations of the speakers who are presenting at the Design Summit on the 22nd May as well as local designers and technologists. Like Roy Batty, many of our speakers have seen things that will be part of our everyday in the near future. From Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, to c-beams that glitter in the dark, a host of short stories will give us an insight into how unevenly distributed the future really is. Part two (6-7pm) involves a much deeper journey across time as we have the pleasure of welcoming Madeline Ashby, science fiction writer and strategic foresight consultant, who will provide us with a public lecture / story. Ashby’s debut novel ‘cN’ and its follow-up ‘iD’, explore self-replicating humanoids, Rapture sects, giant squids and fast food robots. She is also well-known for her short story Social Services written for the Institute for the Future’s collection of original science fiction stories.

Gamification w/ IPA Scotland

In partnership with IPA Scotland join us for a lively panel discussion and networking. Gamification is not a new thing. McDonald's have been using Monopoly sweepstakes to keep their customers coming back for more since 1987. And we're hooked. Often to the exclusion of everything else. Farmville, at its peak, attracted more players in a day than the top performing US TV Show. Games have evolved far beyond their simple stand-alone heritage. The latest titles are in the hands of millions of players worldwide and are location-aware, voice-enabled, socially connected, multi-platform and offer experiences which no other medium can. The panel will be chaired by Brian Baglow [Games Partnership Manager, Creative Skillset]and Scottish Games Network. Creative City Networks Review

Creative Scotland, Waverley Gate, 2-4 Waterloo Place, EH1 3EG

At the beginning of this year Creative Scotland, comissioned a mapping review of Creative Edinburgh, Creative Dundee and Creative Stirling, looking at the impact, benefits and differences between Scotland's creative city networks. This session will be an opportunity to hear the findings of the review and future plans for the networks. Creative Scotland and each of the Creative City Networks, Creative Dundee, Creative Edinburgh and Creative Stirling, invite you to preview and discuss the recently commissioned mapping review of the networks. The independent networks each offer support for the creative and cultural sectors, through industry events, online profiling and delivering partnership projects. This review was carried out by economic and social research company, EKOS to better understand each of the networks and their distinctive characteristics - their focus, size, objectives and impacts - tailored to the needs of each city. We now invite you to this session to hear the findings of this review for the first time and explore how creative place networks: - can be led, delivered and 'owned' by the sector - discuss the successes and the challenges of running the networks - highlight the positive contributions for the cities creative/cultural profiles - consider the value of collaboration and partnerships at local and national levels - focus on how this learning can be shared to benefit more of Scotland's creative communities. We look forward to discussing the unique potential which creative networks hold to provide social, cultural and economic benefits for Scotland, locally and nationally. Customer Service Workshop with Snook

Creative Scotland Waverley Gate, 2-4 Waterloo Place, EH1 3EG

This Workshop will help your creative business explore how your customer feels and how to respond to their needs. Snook will show you how to keep your existing customers and attract new ones, with a focus on how digital technology and social media can develop this. Considering your customer service is important to breakdown what value you provide to them and how. Simply, this means you can increase your sales, reach and continue to deliver what you love doing. Without a service that is based on your customer needs and desires, there is nothing to sell. Understanding your customer takes empathy and thinking about your relationship with them, not just direct sales. This workshop will support you to understand your customers in detail and 'servicize' what you do, based on your existing practice to reach and deliver value to more people. The session will be informal and informative. We aim to demystify your customer and equip you with the tools to design a great experience for your customers..

Creative & Corporate Love (Apr 12)

Leith Agency Boat, Mary de Guise Barge, The Shore, Edinburgh

By bringing our creative and corporate communities together in an informal and rather unique atmosphere, this event aims to present you with new contacts and business opportunities in sectors that you may not have previously had links to. Whether you are a creative person looking for new business or a corporate person looking to find new talent, this event hopes to link you both together. With talks from Tom Holmes of creativebrief and Yann Seznec of Lucky frame, the event will be dovetailed together by our host Fi Milligan Rennie. The evening will also present you with the opportunity to pitch your business as well as voice any live projects that someone in the room may be able to help with. Housed in a barge boat and helped along the way with a few drinks, we hope that this unique event format is a regular highlight in our Creative Edinburgh calendar.
