Can you tell us about yourself and your creative background?

I am the Head of Art, Design & Communication at Edinburgh Napier University. I am a practicing product and furniture designer, specialising in making, micro-manufacture and sustainability

What does your role involve at Napier?

As well as being head of department, I teach product and 3D design at UG and PG level and am an active practice-led researcher.

Can you tell us about the Festival of Creative Industries?

The Creative Industries festival is an annual celebration of the achievements of our graduating students and the diversity of their output. We display student work from design, photography, advertising, publishing, film, TV, Journalism and digital media. Music and acting students give short performances and there are a number of talks, lectures and public events with our industry contacts and alumni.

What makes Edinburgh a good city to be based?

It is an inspiring place to live and work with a rich history of creativity and ideas. It is home to many creative SMEs and practitioners, and also home to the world's largest arts festival.

What advice would you give to people thinking of pursuing a career in the creative industries?

You have to be open-minded, hard-working and willing to take risks. However, it is said that if you enjoy what you do, you'll never do a days work in your life!
