Fair Work
‘Fair Work’ is work that offers all individuals respect, opportunity, fulfillment, security, and an effective voice.
We recognise the Scottish Government ambition for Scotland being a world-leading Fair Work nation by 2025 and have been working towards this shared goal over the course of the last two years 2022-2023). Through our events programme, resources, training sessions, skills development courses and advocacy, we’ve been contributing to this important collective effort to make sure that our community of freelance creatives and small businesses is well informed and kept abreast of any important developments.
We have included fair work principles into every aspect of our work, both internal and external. We are delighted to be a Real Living Wage employer and to be offering fair remuneration to both our contracted staff and freelance colleagues. As part of our efforts, we have also shared our current rates of pay for freelance opportunities at Creative Edinburgh.

In 2024 Creative Edinburgh was invited to join the Culture Fair Work Taskforce which has been convened by the Scottish Government to further implement Fair Work First across the culture sector. The Taskforce provides advice and guidance to Scottish Ministers on key strategic Fair Work issues affecting culture in Scotland. One of the hopes for this initiative is to ultimately see a shared understanding of Fair Work between employers and workers in the creative and cultural sectors. A Fair Work charter will be developed following all the consultations later in 2025.
