Members Spotlight: Jack Waygood

Tell us about yourself and your creative background?

My name is Jack Waygood, aged 31 born in Manchester, founder of a new creative business Work of Iron. I’m award winning and becoming internationally recognised for taking a progressive approach to forge work within the context of fine art. I describe myself as a visual artist and blacksmith.

Can you give us an insight into your practice and what you do?

The ethos for Work of Iron is to be producing high-quality forged ironwork for a wide variety of applications, working creatively, making my own designs, being involved with the art world as well as serving the communities of Edinburgh.

Do you have any exciting projects or events you’re proud of on the horizon?

Before the pandemic hit I was living and working in New Zealand on the Lord of the Rings TV series, coming soon to Amazon.

What makes Edinburgh a good base for creatives?

I find Edinburgh a diverse and welcoming city with a great network of creatives. It's good because there's an appreciation and sanctuary for the weird and wonderful.

What advice would you give to people thinking of pursuing a career in the creative industries?

Embrace everything and follow your instincts. The creative process isn't fun all the time so its important to discover what it is you enjoy, and how to create a situation that allows you to access the important elements of how you work regularly.

What made you want to join Creative Edinburgh as a member?

I'm keen to immerse myself into the goings-on with fellow creatives and seek out opportunities.
