For the first time, the programme was completely free for participants, thanks to the support of Capital City Partnership (CCP) through the Vocational Training Framework (VTF) and delivered in partnership with MacMillan Skills Hub. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time CCP has funded a course specifically designed to help Edinburgh residents find employment in the local creative industries. The programme aligns with CCP’s commitment to employability by equipping participants with industry-specific skills, practical career guidance, and direct connections to potential employers. In previous years, course entry cost £250, which created a financial barrier for many creatives looking to develop their careers. This year, CCP’s funding removed that obstacle, ensuring that talented individuals — whether freelancers, early-career creatives, or those transitioning into the sector — could fully benefit from expert-led training, industry insights, and networking opportunities. Their support has been crucial in fostering sustainable employment pathways within Edinburgh’s creative sector.
As we wrap up the latest edition of VTF Creative Skills Academy ‘Raise Your Game’, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the journey of 28 creatives who participated in the programme. Over five weeks, they’ve engaged in expert-led sessions, gained practical insights, and built valuable connections to help propel their creative careers forward.

The course kicked off with an in-person introduction session held at CodeBase, where all participants were invited to come along and meet the hosts from Creative Edinburgh and Capital City Partnership as well as their new creative peers. This session encouraged collaboration and connection within the group and aimed to help develop long-term relationships that will hopefully last beyond the five weeks of the programme.
The programme was delivered in January and February 2025 and included:
- Digital workshops covering key topics such as business planning, marketing, data analysis, and legal support.
- Access to resources and recordings of all eight sessions, ensuring continued learning beyond live events.
- Career advice and mentoring to help participants identify and pursue new opportunities.
- Networking and industry connections, culminated in an in-person Industry Insight session where delegates met employers and potential collaborators.
"I’m much more confident about the next steps in my career, and I feel better equipped to navigate the creative industries."
